“Zeal For Your House”

“Zeal For Your House”

“Zeal for your house has consumed me.”

The followers of Jesus remembered these words after Jesus had cleared out the temple.

It must have been an amazing experience to see Jesus so passionate, so zealous in this way.

And it dawned on me today as I was walking. Jesus is as passionate, as zealous about his Father’s house today as he was then.

And where is his Father’s house? Well, as Paul said,

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”

And Jesus had already said,

“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

At the age of twelve, Jesus was found in the temple, and when asked why he had gone missing, his words were,

“Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

That is an amazing statement. “I must be in my Father’s house.” What does that mean for us today, when Jesus has promised that he and the Father would come and make their home in us?

It means that Jesus is as passionate and as zealous now for the house of his Father. It means it is absolutely essential that he is found in his Father’s house. He is passionate and zealous for you and I to be the home of his Father. And it is essential that he is found in us.

It means that he will clean out the house, chasing out the things of the world that pollute the Father’s house.

It means he will jealously and zealously guard the Father’s house. If we will simply open the door to him, the door being a receptive heart, he will come in.

And it also means that he is passionate and zealous about us and will defend us and guard us as zealously as he did his Father’s house when he ran out the money changers and sellers.

Do you and I know that we have become the home of God? Do we live with the consciousness that we are the Father’s house?

He must be in his Father’s house. He must be in you and I.

We must recognise that the same words that the followers of Jesus remembered are the same words that apply to Jesus today.

“Zeal for your house has consumed me.”

Eat of the True Bread, drink the Living Water. Be the Father’s house.
