Then he showed me another vision. I saw the Lord standing beside a wall that had been built using a plumb line. He was using a plumb line to see if it was still straight. And the LORD said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
I answered, “A plumb line.”And the Lord replied, “I will test my people with this plumb line.
But yesterday I saw something I hadn’t seen before.
Amos has this amazing vision, we are told of what he saw. The Lord, a wall and a plumb line. And the Lord asks him, “Amos, what do you see?”
Amos answers. “A plumb line.”
When Father showed me back in 2015 that he was holding the plumb line, which is Jesus himself, and measuring again, I knew it was significant. The scripture version at the top puts it so beautifully. That the Lord was standing beside a wall that had been built using a plumb line, and he was using the plumb line to see if it was still straight. Checking to see that what was built still aligned with the plumb line.
I remember how significant that was for me, and how significant I felt that was for other followers of Jesus. And it’s still as relevant now.
What I hadn’t seen back then was this. The Lord asks Amos a specific question. “What do you see?” Now we know what Amos saw because we are told. The Lord, a wall, and a plumb line.
But Amos doesn’t answer as we might expect him to. “Amos, what do you see?”
“A plumb line.”
Amos could have said “I see a wall, and a plumb line.” But he doesn’t. He simply says, “A plumb line.”
Amos focus is on one thing. The plumb line.
As mentioned last time, Father measuring again with the plumb line that is Jesus himself means that he’s checking to see if what was built is still straight, still aligned with the plumb line. With the plumb line central, is what has been built still aligned with Jesus himself?
And when we are asked the question “What do you see?”, what is our answer?
When we look at what’s been built, whether it be in our lives, an organisation, a program, group or church, can we answer that question with, “A plumb line”?
What do you see? A wall, a structure. An organisation. A program. A group.
Or do you see Jesus?
Amos was clearly focused. He saw one thing. The plumb line. 🙂
What do you see?
