Light of Life

Light of Life

There’s a phrase I read that’s been niggling away at me the last couple of weeks. I read it in the book Jesus, The Inner Spring. It’s this:

“We can have light without having life.”

Yesterday afternoon while waiting to meet someone, I saw it. It’s not the light part that matters most. It’s the Life.

I recognise that it’s entirely possible to have light without life. Light which draws people to us, a group, or an organisation. The light can make us very well known. I have seen this happen, and I continue to see this happening around me. But light alone isn’t the answer. We need the Life to back up the light. What a dangerous thing it is when we are light only!

You might ask how is it possible to have light and not life? It’s entirely possible when the light is not the true Light, Jesus Himself.

“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”

That’s how it’s possible to have light without life, when it’s not the True Light. Yesterday it became so clear to me!

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

The Life was and still is the Light of men, and we can have the Light of Life! That means the Life, Jesus Himself, is the Light. It’s the Life which has it’s own Light, it’s own attraction. And that is how it’s possible to have light without life, when it’s not the Life that is producing the Light, True Light.

And so we remember the words of Jesus when he says,

UNLESS you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”

“As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, UNLESS it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”

Life comes from eating and drinking of Jesus. That’s something I may have touched on before! This Life must be in us, one with us, permeating us completely. There is no other assurance of True Light other than knowing the Life within, Christ in us.

I really enjoyed thinking over this yesterday too, it’s a literal Greek translation from John 1.

“All things through him came to be, and apart from him came to be not even one thing which has come to be.”

That is still the case now. Not even one thing that ‘is’ exists apart from him. That is how we are to live our lives, conscious that ‘apart from him we can do nothing.’

Let’s each of us live conscious that within us we carry the ‘Light of Life.’

Eat the Bread, drink the Living Water. Arise, shine!

    1. Peter ..I love your eat the bread drink the wine….the living water.
It speaks to me with revelation every time….
      It’s powerful deep stuff.
I do a ladies breakfast group on a Monday morning here in jersey…..and every week for the last three to five weeks I quote eat the bread and drink the wine….this is the beginning and the end…whatever we speak about pray about share about….I say it’s eat the bread drink the wine…all about the word eat it digest it and live it..

We touched on the listening this week we read Leviticus 19 …eat the bread drink the wine…I say it after just about everything…..because it is everything…..we have to eat to nourish …if we only hear the word but not act upon it …it doesn’t bear fruit …

Bless you in your journey….I’m blessed learning from it.

      1. Hi Mina

Thank you for that encouragement! You’re so right when you say we have to eat to nourish, that’s definitely what I’ve been finding more and more. When Jesus says, “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life in you” he really meant it! 😊
