“This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”

Recently I’ve been working through some training, and the foundation to it all is listening. More specifically, learning to listen properly.

I’m mindful of this phrase in this season, “first the natural, then the spiritual.” You see, I’ve been taught to listen to the tones of a voice, to the subtle nuances of both tone and words. To hear not just what the person says but how they say it. Words and tones that point to deeper things.

And guess what? I’ve found that my listening for the voice of the Father through Jesus has been heightened also. I am hearing subtle nuances in what and how he says things. Words and tones which point to deeper things. And I’ve been hearing the voice of Jesus in what others say too.

“This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”

Do you hear the Father saying this to you? I do. And to others. It’s very clear. “Listen to him!” The Father is emphasising the point! We should always listen to Jesus. But right now, the Father is making a point of giving us this instruction. How many of us will really listen?

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

And,

“the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

Jesus is looking for those who know his voice, know him, and follow him. Completely and continuously.

Recently he has been saying this to me. A lot!

“Know your place. I am the vine, you are a branch.”

“Don’t think more highly of yourself than you should. Humble yourself. Walk in humility and love. Remember who you are and who I am. I am the vine, you are a branch.”

Today as I was walking he said to me again,

“Know your place. I am the vine, you are a branch.”

“Your place is in me, and me in you. There are so many things seeking to distract you and draw you away from your place. Know me. Know my voice. Know my ways. Know my thoughts. That’s your place, you in me and me in you, abiding.”

This Christ consciousness, it’s not simply being aware of him. It’s knowing him, knowing his voice, all the subtle nuances and tones that can so easily be misunderstood or misinterpreted. Words and tones which point to deeper things.

Let’s do what the Father says, listen to his Son.

Eat the Bread, drink the Living Water. Listen to Jesus today. Really listen to him!
