I Am (2)

I Am (2)

There is a truth that I have come across in this experience of Jesus that has been my journey for the last year or so.

We can spend so much time and effort trying to find out who we are in Christ. And I have realised this; what we need is for Jesus to reveal who he is in us.

That is a big difference.

The other day, these words from a song came to mind;

“Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so.”

And then I think, “That’s great, but has Jesus Himself told me he loves me?”

Now don’t get me wrong, I love the bible, but Jesus was pretty clear that we can search the scriptures looking for Life but fail to come to him.

And so, it seems to me that for every one of us Jesus wants to reveal to us personally who he is to us and in us.

We can’t make assumptions that just because it says it in the bible, it’s true of us. Jesus Himself wants to tell us and show us who he is in us.

“I am the Bread of Life.”

I know this is true. I know because Jesus Himself has shown me and told me himself that he is the Bread of Life, to me and in me. I didn’t read it and decide it was true. No-one else told me. Jesus Himself has shown me that is who he is. And I know because I am seeing the Bread of Life at work every day.

When Jesus reveals himself in this way, it is no longer about who I am in Christ, but all about who Christ is in me.

When Jesus reveals who he is in us, we will automatically know who we are in him. There is no effort to take hold of our identity when it’s all about who Christ is in us.

Do you see the difference here? It is, for want of a better phrase, ‘life-changing.’

Have you and I heard Jesus Himself tell us who he is? Have we listened? Have we seen what he is showing us?

Let each of us open our hearts to receive him, so that he can reveal to each one of us, “I Am……”

Eat the Bread, drink the Living Water. Hear Jesus telling you who he is in you!
