I really wasn’t sure how to write this. It’s been with me for days, I’ve touched on it before, but I couldn’t get how to write it. Then today, Jesus says, “Keep it simple.” So I will.

I woke up with the word “flow” in mind the other day. So Jesus reminds me of these words,

“The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Then later that day, someone posted this on Facebook.

“Please don’t allow anyone to ruin your flow today.”

This Life that Jesus offers is a flow of Life, not just a filling!

Standing water has the potential for stagnation. Flowing water doesn’t stagnate. So I looked at the meaning of the word stagnant.

(of a body of water or the atmosphere of a confined space) having no current or flow and often having an unpleasant smell as a consequence.

“a stagnant ditch”

synonyms: still, motionless, immobile, inert, lifeless, dead, standing, slack, static, stationary; More

showing no activity; dull and sluggish.

“a stagnant economy”

synonyms: inactive, sluggish, slow, slow-moving, lethargic, static, flat, depressed, quiet, dull, declining, moribund, dying, dead, dormant, stagnating

This is everything a follower of Jesus should not be.

Eat the Bread, drink the Living Water. Be open to the flow of Life through you.

  1. Compare a river like the Thames with a silted up canal (e.g. the Basingstoke canal at Grayshott). One is uplifting, the other is just flat. One is alive, the other is slowly decaying.
