Peace Be Unto You

Peace Be Unto You

“Peace be unto you.”

Do you hear Jesus saying these words to you? He says them to all of us. His desire for everyone is that they find inner peace through him.

I’ve been thinking the last few days about him who is peace, about him being the centre, the calm that is “the eye of the storm.”

It’s dawned on me how essential peace is as an indicator to the work of the Spirit. Where he is, there is peace. After all,

“to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”

It makes so much sense that the things of the Spirit lead to peace when he himself is peace. The Father doesn’t just give peace, he gives his Son, Jesus himself, who IS peace.

There is a great search going on in this world for inner peace. Some are actively, consciously searching for peace. Others are unaware they are on a peace hunt. But everyone is on this hunt, the question is whether we will find peace where we are looking.

And this peace that the Father gives in Jesus, this peace transcends understanding. Why? Because this peace works at guarding our hearts and minds in good times or bad times. It is not a peace influenced by what is outside us, but a peace that comes from within us.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

The peace of this world comes when things are going well. That means it is an externally motivated peace. It is a peace that exists only when everything is pleasant and good. That is not real peace. That is not Jesus!

This peace that passes understanding is an internal peace, peace that comes regardless of the situation, regardless of whether things are going well or the world is falling apart. That transcends our understanding. That is Jesus!

This peace is the bread of Life, Jesus himself.

The Father gives us this bread today, and he says to each one of us,

“Peace be unto you.”

Eat the bread, drink the Living Water. Be at peace today.
