I’m still captivated by the words of Jesus regarding the vine and branches. And this is profound I know. Branches produce two things. Leaves and fruit! It took me quite some time to get that….
And today, this came to mind.
“And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”
I look at this in the context of Jesus being the vine and us the branches. There are incredible promises to take from this. And amazing insights into what it means for us to be branches in the vine.
In Jesus words, he reminds us that he is the vine and we are the branches. And that is important to always remember so that we can be encouraged by this wonderful promise.
“Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail”
Anything that has withered leaves and failing fruit is not doing well! Remember Jesus cursing the fig tree? One day it looks healthy, the next it’s withered and died. And so, joined to the vine, leaves do not wither and fruit does not fail. And there is one reason for that. Living Water flows from the vine to the branch, and leaves are healthy and fruit is produced! This sanctuary where the water flows from is the secret place, Jesus Himself, the source of Living Water.
There is one guarantee to ensure that leaves don’t wither and fruit doesn’t fail. Stay joined to the vine. Keep Living Water flowing.
Let’s focus on the leaves. A quick search using “healing properties of leaves” will unveil a wealth of websites and information. First the natural, then the spiritual. Leaves are a source of health and healing in this world.
As a branch, the Life of Christ in you and I produces leaves. These leaves are for healing. There is something of the consciousness of this Life in us which is for the healing of all who need it. It’s not the leaf that we focus on, the leaf is the product of the Life. We simply focus on the Vine and receive the Life, and his Life produces leaves for healing.
I wrote about Fruit recently (here and here). And this is also profound. Fruit is for food, as mentioned above, but it is also for seeds. Seeds are sown as the fruit is eaten, it’s reproduction in full flow!
Jesus wants to produce fruit through us. And he can and he will if this Living Water flows through us. We have the promise that our fruit will not fail but that we will produce fresh fruit, simply because the water it needs to be produced flows from the Source!
Remember this today. Be a branch. Simply be a branch for Living Water to flow through, for leaves of healing to be produced and fruit for food. This promise is for you and I today!
Eat the Bread, drink the Living Water. Let Life flow!
