“To know the love of Christ, transcending knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

The other day the Father said to me, “If Jesus is Peace that passes understanding, he is also Love that passes understanding. And if he is Love that passes understanding, he is also Joy that passes understanding. And if he is Joy that passes understanding, he is also Life that passes understanding. Indeed, Jesus himself transcends understanding.”

Whether this is fresh, or a reminder, it is wonderfully true. My week has been filled with conversations pointing to Jesus, and away from intellect and theory. Pointing to the simplicity of Jesus himself, not through understanding but in experience.

This morning while I was getting ready, he said to me, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.”

Why? Because he transcends understanding. He far surpasses understanding. As someone once said, “He is infinitely more than your thought about him.” That can be comforting, or it can be unnerving for us. If I am someone who likes to understand, to have it all worked out, it is unnerving. However, if I’m someone who has come to the end of himself, and I’ve relinquished my need to understand, and instead wholly and completely trusts in One who transcends understanding, then it is comforting.

When we are willing to no longer rely on our understanding, but simply to wholeheartedly trust the One who transcends understanding, we will know that Jesus himself transcends our thoughts, our theories, even our past experiences (or the experiences of others that we have borrowed and made our own). Jesus himself desires to transcend your understanding today. He desires to do so every day.

Transcending means this:

to be or go beyond the range of limits of (activity or conceptual sphere.)

Conceptual means related to ideas and concepts formed in the mind.

Transcending also means:

Surpass – to exceed; be greater than; be better than; do or be better than before.

And where does this trust start? In simplicity. In not needing to know and understand how it all works. But in simply trusting that he is who he says he is, and that he is all that he says he is. And that’s enough. In trusting, I’m willing for him to transcend my finite understanding with his infinite Self.

I feel that’s all I need to say about that right now!
